Everything I have done in my life tends to be overcomplicated, too powerful, very detailed, and Ridiculous!!!
The whole drag racing thing has turned out to be no different. As we navigate through this new experience, the goal has moved higher and higher. The "Black Hole" was supposed to use as many parts as possible from the drag boat that I built but that concept is just fading away.
As it turns out, I have a difficult time not doing everything the best it can be. Hardly anything from the original project is going to end up in the car.
The last straw was the dream of having an engine fit for a "real" ProMod.
A couple of months ago an engine appeared on my favorite website (RacingJunk.com) and it was just what I had always wanted, an all billet aluminum Hemi. As usual, Traci encouraged me to buy it.
We ended up making a deal with a competitive ProMod racing family (the Carusos) on their backup engine. It had been rebuilt by Mike Janis and had good parts in it.
Traci and I made a "flying" drive up to the Buffalo, New York area to pick up the engine and we got to meet Mike Janis and the Caruso family. Everyone was so nice, helpful, and encouraging.
I ended up hiring Mike to update my blower, injector hat, and build me a high end fuel system.
Traci and I made the trip up, picked up the engine, and made it back to Texas in 4 days. Yes, RIDICULOUS!!!!
Here are some pictures of the new engine. An old friend of mine who loves billet aluminum came up with a term for beautiful machine work like this when viewed by a "gear head" like me.
